What to Expect
Chelsea travelled with a 28-man squad but without several key figures. Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Enzo Fernandez and new signing Morgan Rogers all miss the Asia and Australia leg, while Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Romeo Lavia are short of full fitness. Emmanuel Emegha was also left out of the travelling group.
That places the spotlight firmly on Cole Palmer, left out of Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad and now the clear focal point of Alonso's attack. Nicolas Jackson - Returns to lead the line and will be eager to make an early impression under a new manager. Minutes and goals in pre-season matter for a striker whose place is far from guaranteed.
Moises Caicedo - Anchors the Chelsea midfield and offers the control Alonso's system demands. His performance sets the platform for everything ahead of him.

The gulf in quality is significant, and Chelsea should control this comfortably despite fielding a reduced, unfamiliar side. Palmer's presence alone lifts them well above an opponent that finished bottom of the A-League. Pre-season openers against lower-tier opposition typically produce a comfortable win for the stronger side.
Western Sydney's compact approach may frustrate for spells, and wholesale second-half changes could disrupt Chelsea's rhythm. Even so, the visitors' superior quality should yield multiple goals across 90 minutes. A comfortable Chelsea win with a couple of goals is the most probable outcome as the Alonso era begins.
