With the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup only about four days away depending on your time zone, most of the clubs are announcing their squads after making last minute signings just in time for these players to be registered for the tournament.

In this article, we take a look at the clubs that have already announced their squads and the major transfer business that the big clubs are doing ahead of the commencement of this anticipated global showpiece.

🔵Manchester City 🏙:

Transfers: Cherki & Reijnders arrive for CWC

Manchester City kicked off the summer with a statement: four deals done in time to meet FIFA’s June 1–10 window for new signings to be eligible to play in the Club World Cup.

Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki were both signed officially by Pep’s Man City, with the former joining from Wolves on a five-year deal for £32 million while the latter joined from Lyon on also on a five-year deal worth about £34 million.

Shortly after, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders arrived from AC Milan in a ~€55 million transfer—Guardiola’s answer to refreshing the midfield. Before Cherki was made official, Chelsea’s 3rd choice GK, Marcus Bettinelli, was signed by City on a one-year deal and registered for the FIFA CWC.

🗣️Squad for Club World Cup Officially Announced:

Manchester City officially announced a 27-man squad for the 2025 FIFA CWC tournament in the USA on Wednesday, June 11. The squad as expected features all their four signings and many of the guys from last season with the exception of one player, Kevin DeBruyne.

🔵Al‑Hilal 🇸🇦:

Transfer saga: Osimhen snubs Saudi riches; Club Turns to Liverpool’s Nunez & Kante

Al‑Hilal stunned the market by offering Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen a mega package: €75 million transfer fee plus €30 million per year in salary. The forward, however, chose to decline the offer—an emphatic rejection.

With Osimhen off the table, Al Hilal targets Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez as new manager Simone Inzaghi prepares his team for their first CWC match against a certain Real Madrid.

They have also been reported to have asked about former Chelsea dynamo, Kante.

Transfer radar: Bid submitted for Dortmund’s Gittens; Mohammed Kudus Linked

Chelsea have reportedly submitted a second  bid, after the first was rejected, for Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. While the Englishman has already been registered by Dortmund for the FIFA CWC, Chelsea hope to finalise a deal for the 20-year-old after the tournament in the USA.

It is reported that Chelsea decided to go for Jamie after their main target, West Ham’s Ghanaian winger, Mohammed Kudus, was deemed too expensive by the club.

However, some sources say the Blues might could be plotting a high-profile move for Mo Kudus, after the FIFA CWC, with talks of a swap deal that could send Robert Sanchez to West Ham on the table.

They’ve also pursued Mike Maignan—offers were made, but clubs held firm. Kudus remains their most promising target.

🗣️Squad for Club World Cup Officially Announced:

Much like Real Madrid and Man City, Chelsea also announced their squad for the 2025 FIFA CWC tournament in the USA on Wednesday, June 11. Their 28-man squad as expected features new signings, Delap, Sarr, and Esugo while Joao Felix, Rahim Sterling and Disasi all were left out.

Transfer moves: Argentine 17-year-old Wonder kid done but won’t join CWC

Real Madrid is yet to announce their official squad for the FIFA CWC in the USA, but they have been a very busy club in the transfer window, and two of their new signings, Huijsen and Alexander-Arnold, are expected to be a part of the squad for the CWC.

Meanwhile, they have reportedly completed the signing of 17-year-old River Plate marvel, Franco Mastantuono, who was reportedly 90 per cent on his way to becoming a PSG player.

That said, Franco, much like their left-back target, Carreras, also reportedly done at least on personal terms, is not expected to join the club for the FIFA CWC, with the two players all being registered for the tournament by their current clubs.

Xabi Alonso (new manager) is apparently also pushing for more signings, with Real exploring attacking and midfield reinforcements.

🗣️Squad for Club World Cup Officially Announced:

Real Madrid, like City, also announced their squad for the 2025 FIFA CWC tournament in the USA on Wednesday, June 11. The 34-man squad as expected features all their two new signings, Trent and Huijsen, and a bunch of their Castilla academy players.

🔴Bayern Munich

Transfer News: Squad & New Signings Locked In

Bayern have officially confirmed a 29-player roster for the tournament, featuring Neuer, Kimmich, Musiala, Thomas Müller, Harry Kane, new signings Tah and Bischof, with some youth prospects.

So far, the two signings are the only ones the Bavarian club have made with their long-time target, Florian Wirtz, choosing Liverpool over them, probably in loyalty to his boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern are, however, expected to make moves in the market after the FIFA CWC.

🗣️Squad for Club World Cup Officially Announced:

The squad blends established internationals with emerging talents like Leon Klanac, Cassiano Kiala, and Lennart Karl, ready to challenge in the knockout stages.

⚫Juventus 🇮🇹:

Transfer focus: Internal strengthening

Juventus have opted for internal consolidation ahead of the tournament, building on the previous summer’s signings such as Douglas Luiz, Khéphren Thuram, Teun Koopmeiners, and mid-season arrivals like Filip Kostić and Daniele Rugani.

No new major additions are expected; instead, Juve looks to maximise their existing talent pipeline.

Transfer headlines: Jobe Bellingham & Squad Release

Dortmund have been themselves in this transfer window, very quiet but with some movements. Jobe Bellingham—brother of Jude—signed from Sunderland for around €33 million and will compete in the tournament. That is the biggest of their moves.

Chelsea’s attempts to land teen winger Jamie Gittens were rebuffed; Gittens will represent Dortmund at the FIFA CWC and has been named as part of the travelling squad.

On June 10, Dortmund officially announced a 28-player squad that includes Serhou Guirassy, Julian Brandt, Jobe Bellingham, Carney Chukwuemeka (loan), Gio Reyna, Silas Ostrzinski, Jamie Gittens, and others.

PSG, Atletico Madrid, FC Porto, Benfica, Red Bull Salzburg, River Plate, Boca Juniors, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Wydad Athletic Club, among others have announced their official squads for the FIFA CWC along with Bayern and Dortmund.

A new UEFA Champions League winner was crowned last Saturday, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) securing their first-ever title in a historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan.

As is customary at the end of every UCL season, the competition’s organiser, UEFA, led by its Technical Observatory Team, released its team of the season.

And well, let’s just say, UEFA's Team of the Season (TOTS) and individual awards have sparked discussions regarding player selections and omissions.

🏆 UEFA Team of the Season (Complete XI) - Argument For & Against:

Goalkeeper (GK):

🏅Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG):

Donnarumma kept the goal for PSG in all their Champions League games, including the final, which, in honesty, was a holiday for the Italian. Donnarumma kept 6 clean sheets in 15 games, conceding 14 goals.

🛡️ Defenders:

🏅Achraf Hakimi (PSG):

Hakimi's dynamic presence on the right flank was vital for PSG, contributing both defensively and offensively.

He scored in the quarterfinals and the opening goal in the final while consistently providing width and pace throughout the tournament for the French side.

In addition, he won the most possessions (110) and provided 5 assists, taking his total goal contributions to 9.

🏅Marquinhos (PSG):

As PSG's captain, Marquinhos led by example, organising the defence and contributing to the team's seven (7) clean sheets during the campaign while making the most clearances in the competition (92).

🏅Alessandro Bastoni (Inter Milan):

Bastoni was a key figure in Inter's journey to the final, showcasing composure and strong defensive skills. Despite the heavy loss in the final, his performances throughout the tournament, especially the semi-finals against Barca, earned him a spot in the TOTS.

🏅Nuno Mendes (PSG):

Mendes provided balance on the left side of PSG's defence, combining defensive solidity with attacking support, contributing to the team's overall success.

The man with the most possession won (119) was most notable for keeping an in-form Mo Salah quiet for 2 legs.

⚙️ Midfielders:

🏅Declan Rice (Arsenal):

Rice's commanding presence in midfield was pivotal for Arsenal's deep run in the competition. His ability to break up play and help out the attack stood out, even as Arsenal fell short in the semi-finals. Then of course, there are those two free-kick goals, you know which ones.

🏅Vitinha (PSG):

As the controller and orchestrator of the PSG team deep from midfield, the Portuguese midfielder caught the attention of the world in many of the French team’s games, including the final.

His 1,294 passes completed (the most in the competition) is not fluke as he took the role of a puppet master pulling the strings of his teammates and opponents too.

🎯 Forwards:

🏅Ousmane Dembélé (PSG):

Dembélé was a constant threat on the wing, contributing eight (8) goals and six (6) assists in 15 matches. His pace and dribbling were instrumental in breaking down defences as he created the most chances (38).

🏅Lamine Yamal (Barcelona):

At only 17, Yamal was a very constant threat and a player Barca players looked to in the biggest games to do something special like maybe dribble his way into space to make or score a goal.

That this young lad completed the most dribbles in the UCL season (109), is very impressive.

🏅Doue (PSG): 

Aged only 19 at the time, PSG’s versatile winger, Doue, is another young lad who announced his arrival to the world on the biggest stage possible with his performances, especially the one in the final (2G 1 A).

❌ Notable Absences:

🏆Yan Sommer (Inter):

While he was on the losing side in the final, Sommer delivered several standout performances even in games he conceded 3 because without his saves, Inter could have conceded more and yes, I am talking about the semi-final tie against Barca.

Add that to the fact that he kept the most clean sheets (7), made the most saves (54, just one more than Courtois), and had the 3rd best save percentage in the competition, and you wonder what Donnarumma is doing in the post of the TOTS.

 

🏆Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund):

Guirassy was the joint top scorer in the tournament with 13 goals, yet did not make the TOTS, raising questions about the selection criteria if a Doue with  5 and a Dembele with 8 in many more games are included.

Pedri (Barcelona):

Barcelona fans especially and many others could not believe Declan Rice got the nod over Pedri in midfield in the TOTS line-up. Pedri came up 5th in both tackles made (37) and possession won (80) while being one of the controllers in Barca’s midfield alongside De Jong.

🥇 Individual Awards:

🏆UCL Player of the Season: Ousmane Dembélé (PSG)

Dembélé's electrifying performances were central to PSG's success. His ability to change games with his dribbling and finishing made him a force to reckon with, especially his game winners against Arsenal and Liverpool in the semi-finals and Round 16 stages, respectively.

🏆People’s Winner: Raphina

While Dembele’s heroics in the two knock-out games were pivotal, many, however, are of the view that the French winger, who filled the false 9 role occasionally, did not deserve to be named best player over Barcelona’s Raphina.

Why? Well, their agreement is, aside from chances created (not from open play only), Dembele was not the best at anything else. Not goals, not assists, not dribbles, nothing except, well, according to UEFA, runs into the penalty area.

Raphina, on the other hand, who with fewer games played than Dembele, equalled CR7's record of most goals plus assists (21) in a single UCL season.

🏆UCL Best Young Player of the Season: Désiré Doué (PSG)

Doué's emergence as a key player for PSG was one of the season's highlights. His two goals and an assist in the final capped off a remarkable campaign, making him the youngest player to score a brace in a Champions League final.

🏆People’s Winner: Yamal

The people’s argument is this. Lamine, in fewer games, has the same number of goals and assists as Doue has (9), and as a tie breaker, has also completed the most dribbles in the UCL, so if anybody deserves to be named best young player, it should be the Barca lad.

📊 Conclusion:

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League season showcased a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents. While the TOTS highlighted many deserving players, the omission of key performers like Sommer and Guirassy sparked debates among fans and analysts just as the POTS and YPOTS did.

However, statistics tell us that Real Madrid has a very strong record against Barcelona away at Barca’s home.

Also, if I were a Real Madrid team beaten mercilessly by my greatest rival in all three of our meetings this season, including two cup finals, I would be going into this game thinking my only option was to win, if not for revenge then to try to close the 4-point gap in the league, hope that Barca draws one of their remaining games and I win all of mine and lift the Spanish La Liga.

This level of deep analysis could be seen for all the other games, while some games like the Inter Milan and Man City ones, the two teams seem to be outright favourites to win their games, just like our customer has chosen.

Finally, and of course, we reserved the best for last, our last booking code is a goal-related one, but not in the way you think. Well, in the way you think, but no, it’s not only over or under, no. It’s both.
