The Best XI: MSport La Liga Team of the Season 2024/25
The 2024/25 La Liga season was chaos and poetry, basically everything we love about Spanish football. Barcelona won the league, which is impressive on its own, but they didn’t just win it, they kicked the door down and danced on Real Madrid’s dining table while doing it. Under Hansi Flick (yes, the same guy Germany let go too soon), they bagged a domestic treble and beat Madrid four times. Not once. Not twice. Four. You almost felt bad for Los Blancos.

With the season now consigned to the history book, let’s hand out some flowers. Here’s the MSport La Liga Team of the Season 2024/25. The guys who balled out, broke through, and bossed the pitch from August to May.

GK: Joan García (Espanyol) 🇪🇸

Saved Espanyol from relegation with a heroic season. La Liga’s top shot-stopper with 146 saves, 89 inside the box, and the league’s best goals prevented rate (+7.6). Barcelona and Man United are circling, and for good reason.

RB: Jules Koundé (Barcelona)🇫🇷

Played like a right-back with a No. 10’s mindset. Had more goal-involved attacking sequences (135) than any other defender, plus 85 touches in the opposition box. 2 goals, 3 assists, his best return yet.

CB: Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid) 🇩🇪

Madrid’s defensive glue. Led a patched-up backline with calm and power, playing next to midfielders, B-teamers, and full-backs out of position. Still didn’t flinch.

CB: Inigo Martínez (Barcelona) 🇪🇸

The old head in a young defense. Led La Liga defenders in progressive carries (514), and had more assists (4) this season than in the previous 377 games of his career. Efficient and elegant.

LB: Oscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo)🇪🇸

Once a centre-back, now La Liga’s most creative full-back. Finished with 10 goal involvements, the only wing-back to hit double figures, and led the league in progressive passes (216). A stunning reinvention.

CM: Pedri (Barcelona) 🇪🇸

Played deeper but bossed the league. No player attempted or completed more passes. Still led midfielders in chances created (68), forward passes (653), and recoveries (254). Barcelona’s midfield final boss.

CM: Isco (Real Betis) 🇪🇸

Didn’t play until December. Still led La Liga in open-play chances created (44) and assists (8) from that point. Gave Betis identity, control, and joy. One of the comebacks of the decade.

CM: Alex Baena (Villarreal) 🇪🇸

The heart of Villarreal’s Champions League push. La Liga’s top man for chances created (95) and expected assists (12.6). Ended with 16 goal involvements. Loyalty, tears, and talent — he gave it all.

RW: Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) 🇪🇸

Seventeen. Unstoppable. Led La Liga in shot-creating carries (56) and shot-creating actions (91). Racked up 22 goal involvements. He already looks world-class — and he’s not 18 yet.

ST: Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid)🇫🇷

Started slow, finished historic. Scored 31 league goals — the third-best debut season in La Liga history. Earned Madrid 25 points with his goals alone. A freak in the box.

LW: Raphinha (Barcelona) 🇧🇷

Quietly brilliant. Delivered 27 goal involvements (18 goals, 9 assists) and led La Liga in open-play chances created (70). Matched anyone for goals after carries (6). Did it all while Yamal grabbed headlines.
